Message from your Course Superintendent

Dear Members,

As we continue to experience prolonged dry conditions and high evapotranspiration rates, our water reserves are under increasing pressure. Since mid-October, we have used nearly 70 million litres of water, with 28 million litres used in January alone. On warmer days, irrigation requires up to 2 million litres per night, while our daily replenishment capacity is limited to 880,000 litres, creating a significant deficit.

You may start to notice some areas of the course beginning to dry out, particularly warm-season grass areas. This is not ideal, as we had envisioned far greater density in our fairways leading into winter, but unfortunately, Mother Nature has had different plans. Sustaining surfaces this season has been incredibly challenging, with a tremendous amount of irrigation applied abundantly to cool-season areas as a precaution against the exceptionally hot, windy weather we've experienced.

To ensure we can maintain the best possible playing conditions, we may need to adjust our irrigation strategy and prioritise key areas of the course. That said, making announcements like this has a funny way of proving me wrong and breaking drought cycles-so let's hope that trend continues!

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will keep you informed of any necessary changes. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Andrew Anderson

Superintendent, Ranfurlie Golf Club

If you need upholstery work for cars, boats, or other items, please contact Mega Trim at (03) 9792 9952 for expert assistance.

IMPORTANT - GIVE WAY TO STAFF

Recently, there has been a concerning increase in instances where our Groundstaff, while preparing the golf course, have been nearly struck by stray golf balls from players teeing off or hitting from the fairways towards staff. This is unacceptable behavior that the club will not tolerate.

Some members have already been subject to disciplinary action regarding this issue. Please remember that Groundstaff have no protection from errant shots, and any player who knowingly hits up on them will face a minimum four-week suspension from playing rights. Repeat offenders may face expulsion from the club. This is a both a rule of the club and also an OH&S safety procedure.

Your cooperation in ensuring the safety of our team is greatly appreciated.
